The honest part: a trailer needs power too

A refrigerated trailer runs on electricity. In an outage, that means a generator or a location that still has power, such as a community center, warehouse or business that isn’t on the dark side of town. Tell us your situation and we’ll talk through what will work before you commit.

Before the storm

  • Call early. When a storm is forecast, cold storage gets scarce fast.
  • Pick the spot: level ground our truck can reach, out of low areas that flood.
  • Line up power: a generator or a site with service.
  • Keep thermometers in your coolers and freezers so you know where things stand.

After the lights go out

Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed. According to Ready.gov, a closed refrigerator keeps food cold for about four hours and a full freezer holds its temperature for about 48 hours. Food that reaches 40°F or warmer should be thrown out. Moving it into a cold trailer before then is what saves it.

Questions we hear a lot

Does the trailer work without power?

No. It needs electricity, from a generator or a location with power. We’ll help you think it through before delivery.

How long will food last in my fridge during an outage?

Ready.gov says a closed refrigerator keeps food cold for about four hours and a full freezer about 48 hours. Throw out food that reaches 40°F or warmer.

Should I reserve before hurricane season?

If you run a restaurant, store or food pantry near the coast or in south Georgia, a plan made before June is better than a scramble during a storm. Call (404) 418-8290 to talk it through.

Can it run as a freezer?

Yes. Every trailer can run as a refrigerator or a freezer.
