Decatur, Georgia · DeKalb County
In Decatur, your exact address decides how much paperwork comes with your event. A party on private property and a festival on the Square follow very different rules, and plenty of Decatur mailing addresses aren’t in the city at all. We bring a refrigerated or freezer trailer to all of them and pick it up when you’re done.
Tell us the address, and we bring the trailer to your business, venue, community center or home, then come back for it when you’re done.

Outside town? We cover all of DeKalb County, plus every county in Georgia and the counties along the Georgia line.
Thousands of properties with Decatur mailing addresses sit outside the city limits, in unincorporated DeKalb County. The city’s own FAQ gives a simple test: look up the property on the DeKalb tax commissioner’s website. Tax district 92 is the City of Decatur, and tax district 4 is unincorporated.
Take a minute to check, because the city’s event rules below only apply inside the line. If you’re outside it, our DeKalb County page covers what to plan for instead. We deliver to both.
The city’s special event application covers activity downtown or in a business district that uses the Square, the bandstand or Harmony Park, runs four hours or more, affects local businesses or draws 100 or more people. It’s due at least 90 business days before your date, which is more than four months on the calendar. Permits go to Decatur nonprofits or events that directly benefit one. The city also won’t issue a permit for the weekend before or after one of its own events of more than 1,000 people, so look at the city calendar before you commit.
Smaller plans move on a shorter clock. A block party application goes in two to four weeks ahead, with a four-hour limit on the street closure and an end at sunset. An event held entirely on private property doesn’t need a special event permit at all, which covers a backyard graduation party or a reception in your organization’s own parking lot. If food is being sold, DeKalb Public Health still wants temporary event paperwork 30 days out, inside the city or not.
In 2026 the Decatur Book Festival and its street fair filled downtown on October 2 and 3, and Amplify Decatur brought four days of music on and around the Square in June. If your kitchen is close to the crowd, weekends like those can outgrow your walk-in. A trailer holds the extra product for just that stretch, since rental length is flexible. Have it delivered the day before so it has time to get cold. Drop-off and pick-up happen between 8 AM and 6 PM, so plan around any street closures.
Space near the Square is the thing to work out early. Ask your landlord or building manager where a trailer can sit, then text a photo of the spot to (404) 418-8290. The truck needs level ground it can get to, and power is the other thing we’ll go over with you. Our site preparation guide shows what to look for.

An event held entirely on private property doesn’t need the city’s special event permit. Closing your street is different. That’s a block party application, due two to four weeks ahead.
